TPC Group Awards Scholarships to 18 High School Graduates

HOUSTON (Monday, June 24, 2019) – TPC Group recently announced the recipients of this year’s Mark of Excellence Scholarship Program at a luncheon held on May 29 in Houston. The Company’s Mark of Excellence Scholarship Program recognizes high school seniors planning to attend a four-year or two-year university or college following graduation. Since 2006, TPC Group has awarded more than $915,000 in academic scholarships to graduating high school seniors in southeast Texas.

TPC Group’s Mark of Excellence Scholarship is awarded to students graduating from Cesar E. Chavez High School, in Houston’s East End and from Port Neches-Groves High School, in Port Neches, Texas and plan to pursue a degree in degree in engineering, chemistry or environmental science at an accredited four-year college or university; or an Associate of Applied Science Degree in process, instrument, analyzer or electrical technology at an accredited two-year institution.

Dependents of TPC Group employees and high school students participating in Genesys Works, a high school internship program that works with corporate partners like TPC Group to place underserved students in meaningful internships during their senior year, are also eligible for the Mark of Excellence Scholarship, as well. The Company awarded 18 scholarships in 2019.

Cesar E. Chavez High School Recipients:

  • Leslie Garcia is a graduate of Cesar E. Chavez High School. She plans to attend Houston Community College and pursue a degree in industrial psychology.
  • Mauricio Infante is a graduate of Cesar E. Chavez High School. He plans to attend Houston Community College and pursue a degree in chemical engineering or accounting.
  • Marvin Ortega is a graduate of Cesar E. Chavez High School. He plans to attend San Jacinto College and pursue a degree in process technology.
  • Kevin Tran is a graduate of Cesar E. Chavez High School. He plans to attend the University of Houston and pursue a degree in information technology.
  • Xavier Nieto is a graduate of Cesar E. Chavez High School. He plans to attend Houston Community College and pursue a degree in electrical technology.
  • Jonathan Olvera is a graduate of Cesar E. Chavez High School. He plans to attend the University of Houston and pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Juan Ortiz Jr. is a graduate of Cesar E. Chavez High School. He plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and pursue a degree in chemical engineering.
  • Andre Vega is a graduate of Cesar E. Chavez High School. He plans to attend the San Jacinto College – South Campus and pursue a degree in electrical technology.

Port Neches-Groves High School Recipients:

  •  Riley Abel is a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School. Riley plans to attend Lamar State College – Port Arthur and pursue a degree in process technology.
  • Alaina Collins is a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School. She plans to attend Lamar University and pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Diana Nguyen is a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School. She plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and pursue a degree in chemical engineering.

Sons and Daughters Scholarships Recipients:

  • Maya DeConge is a graduate of La Porte High School. She plans to attend Texas A&M University and pursue a degree in public health.
  • Blake Haynes is a graduate of Kingwood High School. He plans to attend to the University of Houston and pursue a degree in chemical engineering.
  • Cassie Haynes is a graduate of Kingwood High School. She plans to attend Lone Star College and pursue a degree in nursing.
  • Claire Ouellette is a graduate of Ridge Point High School. She plans to attend Texas A&M University and pursue a degree in physics.
  • Carlee Weeks is a graduate of Bridge City High School. She plans to attend Stephen F. Austin and pursue a degree in nursing.
  • Jordan Wilson is a graduate of Alvin High School. She plans to attend Alvin Community College and pursue a degree in management.
  • Dara Woodard is a graduate of Barbers Hill High School. She plans to attend Lee College and pursue a degree in education.
