Texas Petrochemicals Awards $40,000 In Academic Scholarships To Chavez High School Graduates
HOUSTON (Thursday, July 2, 2009) – Texas Petrochemicals recently announced the recipients of this year’s Mark of Excellence Scholarship Awards. Ms. Mara Castillo and Mr. Juan Garza, graduates of Chavez High School, will each receive a 4-year, $20,000 scholarship for their demonstrated excellence in academics and commitment to pursue higher education.
The Company’s scholarship program builds on a solid foundation of community involvement and support for those who seek to improve and promote educational advancement, environmental responsibility and the overall well-being of the community at large. The program is designed to recognize two graduating seniors from Chavez High School who plan to pursue a degree in the engineering and sciences or education discipline. Texas Petrochemicals has worked closely with Chavez High School and has supported many of its programs since the school opened in August 2000.
Since 2006, Texas Petrochemicals has awarded $250,000 in academic scholarships across Texas through its Mark of Excellence Scholarship Program.
